My only tattoo is a small one of Calvin dancing.

My oldest daughter started reading through some of my Calvin and Hobbes books, and seems to truly love it as well.

So here now is the Kickstarter (fund raising site) page for Dear Mr. Watterson, a documentary about the strip.

Dear Mr. Watterson is a film that will look to the readers and fans of Calvin & Hobbes to tell the story of the strip and its creator. As we explore the art and impact of Bill Watterson through this unique perspective, the undying appreciation and love of Calvin & Hobbes and the man behind it will be evident in the anecdotes, stories, and memories shared by readers of the strip and friends and colleagues of Mr. Watterson.

While the crew has been donating their time to make this project happen, we’ll be taking several trips to conduct interviews and collect footage, so the costs of air tickets, rental cars, meals, and motel stays will add up. The benefit of raising our goal of $12,000 all at once through Kickstarter is that we’ll be able to move forward on this film without the hurdle of funding, and the more we raise on top of that, the more we can do with the film.

I would love to see this happen and am working on my contribution as these words type to my screen. Consider doing the same!

One of its most interesting characters is Omar Little, the scourge of Baltimore city drug dealers.

I also really enjoyed Cormac Mccarthy’s book The Road. The complete scrubbing of all quotation marks took getting used to at first. But once you get into the rhythm of the writing, their removal adds a strange sense of intimacy with the characters.

He looked at his father and then tilted the can and drank. He sat there thinking about it. It’s really good, he said.

    Yes. It is.

    You have some, Papa.

I want you to drink it.

    You have some.

He took the can and sipped it and handed it back. You drink it, he said. Let’s just sit here.

The Road has been transformed into a movie, and Omar (Michael K. Williams) is in it as (ironically enough) “The Thief”.

Now, I’m all for doing it up. If going all out for your wedding means dressing up Star Wars style, more power to ya.

But seriously, if it were you….if you are the groom, this is your wedding, and you have to pick a Star Wars costume, would you choose to be a Mon Calamari?

Would you cover your face during your wedding ceremony so that when your future offspring view mommy and daddy’s wedding day pictures, they have to ask “Why is dad wearing a squid mask?”

I had no idea Felon existed. Why would a movie starring Val Kilmer, one of the coolest actors ever, be a limited release? Of course, looking through that imdb list, it doesn’t seem like he’s been in much of anything lately. This one definitely looks like it could go south, but it also looks to have the potential of falling just this side of kick-ass. It’s just surprising to see it kept to only L.A and N.Y. How are these decisions made? By the way, if you never saw Spartan or The Salton Sea, you should.

Before you read what the movie is about, it might be best to do two things first, please.

1. Check out a bit of the pedigree: The director was producer of all three Bourne movies (probably best set of action movies ever), directed the first one (setting the pace for what would probably be the best set of actions movies ever) and directed Mr. & Mrs. Smith (probably better than you thought it’d be). Did you ever see the movie “Dear Wendy”? Great movie starring Jaime Bell, who was intense and fun. Good actor. Hey look, it’s wuuuulfy! And do I have to tell you who Samuel L. Jackson is? Peek at this writer’s list and you’ll notice some roses like Batman Begins and Dark City. This writer over here doesn’t have much, but he’s got Fight Club, which is plenty to me.

2. After all that IMDB linking, watch this trailer. Watch it again.

Now really, I know if some of you read a synopsis first you might not have had much interest in this movie. But after watching that trailer and seeing some of the people involved, aren’t you a little psyched to see Jumper? I can’t believe I haven’t seen more of this around. We don’t have cable or watch much TV in our house, but I still feel like I get a decent dose of entertainment news. Anyway, the most pressing issue for me now is deciding if I want to try hitting the book first (which has a sequel coming out in just a few weeks). Wait, I’m wrong. According to this guy, the book to which I just linked is not the sequel (this is). It is (as he calls it) a “side-quel”.

From the “From Publishers Weekly” section From the amazon page:

Fleshing out backstory for the upcoming motion picture Jumper (based on Gould’s 1992 debut novel of the same name), this breakneck-paced SF adventure revolves around a character created specifically for the film

So I guess the screenplay spiced things up a bit by throwing in a second jumper.
